The Mysterious New Jersey hits the news again. A possible Paranormal activity

A True Account of America’s Most Haunted Road

By: Alexandria Addesso

A 10-mile stretch of highway in New Jersey’s Passaic County is deemed the most haunted road in America, known as Clinton Road. While contemporary paranormal hotbeds that seem to be the most appealing to thrill seekers seem to be abandoned prisons or insane asylums and not streets, Clinton Road is known for its share of strange occurrences.

According to a mix of first hand experiences, urban legends and exaggerations, a plethora of oddities have been reported to be seen on the country’s most haunted road. Ghosts, cannibals, mysterious tailgating pick-up trucks, the Klu Klux Klan and even the New Jersey Devil himself have been said to be seen there whether it be true or otherwise.

On a summer’s night in 2012 a group of young people decided to visit America’s most haunted road for the first time. A total of 10 people in two cars headed to Clinton Road. While no New Jersey Devil or cannibals were seen, the night would be eventful for at least one of the cars.

Lacking flashlights, the group walked in the middle of the pitch-black, desolate street while passing around bottles of alcohol and smoking and carrying on.

“When we were walking in the street I kept seeing headlights behind us,” said Courtney Torres, who was the driver of one of the cars, “but when I moved out of the way there was no car.”

The group eventually ventured into the woods and found what seemed to be an abandoned church with a shed in the back.

“I remember the woods being really creepy and feeling like there were eyes on me,” said Torres.

Two of the members of the group ran ahead and began banging on the shed which startled Torres and several other members of the group, shortly after they all returned to the cars.

On the ride back Torres kept driving as the other car stopped for gas. She didn’t see them turn into the gas station until the last minute on the highway and was already frustrated that they didn’t get gas before starting the trip started like she suggested. From there one misfortune after another happened to the car that was left behind.

“We missed a turn and then got a flat tire out of nowhere,” said Jesus Manuel, one of the passengers and one of the two trouble makers back in the woods.

As the driver saw that he was passing the turn, he tried to quickly turn the car which caused it to spin out of control. Just before two of the passengers were doing shots off the roof of the moving car.

With all of their cellphones oddly dead and no spare tire, they had no choice but to abandon the car and start walking because the tire was completely busted. No one in the car Torres was driving had a clue of what had happened until the next day.

Many hours later the group made it to a small town outside of Bloomfield before they were able to get picked up by Manuel’s mother.

“We got home at like 4 o’clock the next day,” said Manuel.
While the unfortunate events could be explained by following ghouls or the negligence of youth, Torres and Manuel said they’d never return to Clinton Road.

“The ones that fucked around were in that car,” said Torres. “They messed around at the church, they messed around in the woods, and they were the reckless ones.”
